EuroDNS is one of the first Registrars officially accredited by the .LU Registry to allow private individuals and companies to apply for internationalized .LU Domain names (‘IDN’). This document - which integrates EuroDNS' Terms & Conditions of Registration but does not wish to replace the Registry's official documentation available at http://www.dns.lu - aims to answer your questions on the topic and help you understand the Sunrise Period process more clearly.

To know more about IDNs, feel free to read the applicable article in our FAQ:
http://www.eurodns.com/faq

I. Generalities

General conditions to get an Internationalized '.LU’ Domain name
To obtain an internationalized .LU domain name (« ”IDN”) from the .LU Registry during the Sunrise Period, the applicant (you!) must meet the criteria set-out by the Registry.
However there is no specific requirement to register a .LU Internationalized domain name after the Sunrise Period.

Please note: For the avoidance of doubt as well as for any aspect of the Sunrise process not covered in this document, the Registrant or Holder agrees that he/she has read and understood the official IDN Sunrise Policy Document provided by the Registry at  http://www.dns.lu/en/EN-LUConditions.html

What is the annual cost for a .LU IDN?
EuroDNS will charge its customers €34-. per year for each IDN registered on their behalf through the Registry without regards to the Period when the application will be made.

II Specific Situations - "Sunrise" period for .LU domain name holders

1/ What is the Sunrise Period
Contrary to other Registries, .LU IDN “Sunrise Period” is not dedicated to Trademarks and Trademark holders. Rather, it acts as a “grandfather period” where any holder of a specific ASCII .LU domain name can apply for one – or more – of the corresponding variation as a .LU IDN.
The "Sunrise" period is subject to a specific procedure and time restrictions, which will no longer apply for open registrations when the "Sunrise" period is over.

2/ How to benefit from the Sunrise Period

The Sunrise Period starts on the 1st of February 2010 and close on the 31st of March of 2010. In order to be eligible under Sunrise, the Existing Domain Name has to have been registered prior to the Sunrise application. There is however no other requirement as to when the Existing Domain Name has been registered.
The Existing Domain Name holder will have to:

1.    Ensure that the Existing Domain Name for which it wishes to benefit from the Sunrise Period is duly registered in ASCII under its details
2.    Specify the Existing ASCII Domain Name (including the .LU extension) for which it wishes to register an IDN variation.
3.    Apply for one of the corresponding .LU IDN variation, according to the “.LU Registry correspondence ” below
4.    Use details identical to those displayed in the .LU Registry whois for the Corresponding ASCII name.

Please note that no documentary evidence will be asked of the Customer to support the Sunrise request, identity of the respective data will be enough by itself in most cases. However the .LU Registry (Restena) may make a posteriori checks. In such cases, you agree that you will provide the documentary evidence to .LU Registry upon request.

3/ Eligibility criteria

Existing ASCII .LU Domain Names will allow their respective holders to apply for the registration of a corresponding .LU IDN variation that includes one ore more accentuated character(s) in accordance with this official correspondence table:

ASCII
character
.LU IDN authorised replacement
a à â ä
c ç
e é è ê ë
i î ï
o ô ö
u ù û ü
ae æ ä
oe œ ö
ue ü

In order to ease this process for you, EuroDNS has developed an online tool which allows you to know which .LU IDNs the Customer is entitled to, using an Existing ASCII .LU Domain Name.
As a concrete example, the holder of the Existing Domain Name eurodns.lu,would be entitled to apply for the following variations:
éurodns.lu – èurodns – êurodns - ëurodns
éurôdns.lu – éurödns.lu
èurôdns.lu – èurödns.lu
êurôdns.lu – êurödns.lu
ëurôdns.lu – ëurödns.lu ….

Input the IDN domain name you wish to Register and the Period for which you wish to participate in: Sunrise or GoLive.? The relevant costs of Registration will be displayed in your cart.? You can modify your request or go directly to payment of the complete sum displayed on the page. ?

Once the payment has been processed, your request will be dated and recorded in our system and in your EuroDNS Customer account area.
