EuroDNS welcomes AFNIC’s opening of .FR domain names
to all French citizens outside France!

Luxembourg, April 14th, 2010 - EuroDNS is glad to support AFNIC’s opening of the .FR domain names to French citizens residing in a foreign country, lowering the geographical restrictions previously in place.
For years registration of a .FR Domain Name used to be possible only for French Companies and citizens with a valid address in France. Starting this month, French citizens no longer have to actually live in France to be able to acquire a .FR domain name for their e-mail addresses or web sites. While AFNIC does not require the interested individual to produce its passport before entering the Registration request, EuroDNS has been informed that random checks may occur following the registration where the individual will have to send a document confirming its French citizenship.
Xavier Buck, EuroDNS CEO, comments “This decision is a step in the right direction and should finally allow French citizens – whether in bordering countries such as Luxembourg or in the other side of the world – to express themselves with a domain name linked to their home country. Having worked for years towards the wide adoption of local domain names by individuals and companies, EuroDNS is proud to support this limited opening”
To celebrate this achievement, EuroDNS customers can now benefit from a discount on their .FR domain names registrations using the promocode FRABROAD.
It will take AFNIC another two years to finally accept registration of .FR from all individuals and structures located within the European Union, in 2012. Contrary to many Registries in the world, there are currently no plans to allow non-French individuals outside of Europe to register a .FR Domain Name.
